The freaks were out in full force on June 12th for “Turnt”—Atlanta’s newest trap and bass music weekly hosted by Freakstep Records and located at Spring 4th Center every Wednesday night. The debut featured a who’s who of Atlanta artists including heavy hitters such as Mayhem, Ployd, McBeezy, and Mighty High Coup. All proceeds went to support the guest of honor Chris “HPNTK” Tanner who was injured by a stray bullet on Auburn Avenue last month.
The night began with an Atlanta family vibe and Sarah “The Snacks” Sativa on the decks playing electro and trap tracks with some deep dub tossed in the mix. The duo HYDRABADD followed The Snacks’ set and warmed the crowd up with a bit of booty bass until launching into a high energy trap performance that demanded all attention from the growing audience. Baels took control of the night next and delivered the grittiest tracks that trap has to offer, putting the crowd into full tilt freak mode. Just when the crowd was trying to catch their breath from Baels’ set, the Freakstep trio Mighty High Coup roared on stage with their speaker bangers “BOOM” and “The 808 Track,” leaving the audience reeling and letting Atlanta legend Mayhem swoop in for the knockout.
Anthony “Mayhem” Rotella served the crowd up something special with multiple exclusive tracks including a never before heard rendition of his track “Brick Squad Anthem” that had the crowd’s hands in the air and jaws on the floor. The night progressed with a tag team set by Ployd and McBeezy who rolled out the dub in true Atlanta fashion and MC Arion Lee on the mic. Paul “Floppy D” Ollinger closed the night with some traditional dubstep including an old school track by Datsik named “Jenova Project” that had Final Fantasy fans geeking out. Give your eardrums a workout and catch this week’s “Turnt” for a continuance of the best trap and bass music Atlanta has to offer.
ATLANTA BASS WARS - FULL FACE MELT - RECAP - 2/17/12 (last night)
it went down friday night in ATLANTA at the quad. It was at capacity which has to be about 2000+ people and it was rammed the fuck out and pure heavy dubstep all night.
It was the loudest I have ever heard the quad with some super blasting subs that shook the core or my ear drums and assured me of going deaf by the time i’m 40.
The Juggernaut from L.A. started it off and he did it right with many tracks I had never heard he has some bangers go check him out:
Next up was VASKI and he did not disapoint: Oblivion came on with more filth: THEN hometown heroes MANTIS had the crowd hyper than anyone all night around 4am: sorry for the lack of quality it was just with my iphone but you get the idea kinda the sound was too loud for my phone to handle. ATLANTA has one of the biggest up and coming scenes hands down I am proud to be here.
TONIGHT 1332 Entertainment is throwing another one of their infamous “Call of Booty” parties with MANTIS as the headliner. If you are in ATL, you should roll out to this because it will be the spot to be!!!
