check out this review from last month’s FREAKACADEMY at union…
this thurs we do it all again atlanta make sure to be there.
If you were at The Union on May 9th
for Freakstep Records& debut of its new monthly event #FREAKACADEMY
then chances are you’ve already made plans to attend the next one. An orchestrated onslaught of four DJs annihilated the dance floor, each turning up the crowd’s intensity to a new level. The three resident DJs of the event, Saejma, Chromatiq, and The Snacks, offer something for everybody from the cleanest drum and bass to the dirtiest trapstep. Set this in The Union’s intimate, two-story venue and you have the monthly Atlanta has been waiting for: #FREAKACADEMY
This month’s guest headliner was winner of Creative Loafing’s “Best Local DJ” of 2012, producer/DJ Corey Herrin aka SnellVillain. Once he took control, SnellVillain didn’t let The Union take a single breath. Each track elicited a response from the crowd that DJs live for: hollering, movement, and especially sweat. Touting a well-executed mix of electronic, dub, and trap, SnellVillain’s guest appearance made#FREAKACADEMY’s debut night unforgettable.
The resident Freakstep DJs went in just as hard as SnellVillain did with Saejma as the opening act. For those of you wondering where all the drum and bass went in EAV, you can find it at #FREAKACADEMY and Saejma holds the key. Get there early to catch the blissful DnB experience that she has to offer lucky listeners. Her clean transitions and quality track selections would garner respect from the most avid bassheads.
And then God said, “Let there be Chromatiq.” Atlanta native Chromatiq jump-started the intense mood of the night and set a high bar for the DJs that followed her. This highly energetic set featured Chromatiq’s own brand of EDM featuring electronic, dub, trap, and even moombahton. “She’s hot” said a girl in the crowd as Chromatiq was warming everybody up for an impressive act. The crowd fell in love with Chromatiq on Thursday night and you might have to readjust your priorities if you haven’t planned on catching her at the next #FREAKACADEMY
Closing the night was Sarah “The Snacks” Sativa who did more than just close the night—she brought the place to its knees. The steady progression of the night culminated in a truly dirty trap set in which The Snacks took no prisoners. From the nostalgic to the new, The Snacks’ tracks turned the dance floor into a group of maniacs with her as the leader of this trap cult. #FREAKACADEMY could not have asked for a better conclusion to its opening night and only the next event on June 13th has a chance of bringing a wilder party than this one.
