FB BONUS TRAXXX presents - INDUSTRIAL music from the 1990’s
This is the series (#12) where I post a selection of mp3’s at once with a theme as a group of mp3’s with no preview player.  This time the theme is my first love in electronic music,  Industrial.  This is the music that I listened to when I was in High School and shaped my formative years.  Most Industrial came out in the late 1980’s and peaked in the mid 1990’s then seemed to fade away.  Wax Trax! was the most prolific label and many of these tracks come from their Black Box set (look for that on torrent sites).  This list has many omissions (as I have lost many of my personal fav. mp3’s) but is meant to expose those younger readers who did not grow up with this like me.  With Dubstep en vogue now it’s good to look at some of the pioneers that influenced the genre before the age of blogs. enjoy - download the zip or individual mp3’s.

1. Ministry / Deity / Click to DL - From one of the greatest albums of all time The Land of Rape and Honey.  Ministry is still great live at least when I saw them a few years ago.  This came out in 1988 and I used to freebase cocaine and listen to this at parties - go get the whole album.
2. Revolting Cocks / Beers, Steers, and Queers / click to DL - This was a Ministry side project that was also a kind of Industrial All Star supergroup with Al Jourgensen and Front 242 members in a revolving nature ala Pigface.  They released 3 great albums in the 90’s then broke up - reforming to tour in the 2000’s.
3. 1000 Homo DJ’s / Supernaut / click to DL - Another Jourgensen side project featuring many players from other Industrial bands.  This Black Sabbath cover features Trent Reznor on vocals. Click HERE to read more.
4. PTP / Rubber Glove Seduction / click to DL - Yet another Jourgensen side project featuring first Ogre of Skinny Puppy and then Chris Connelly on vocals. CLICK HERE to read more.
5. Laibach / Geburt Einer Nation / click to DL - Straight from Slovenia these guys made some crazy dark bugged out music. I also recommend their Sympathy for the Devil remixes.  Click HERE to watch their crazy Life is Life video.
6. Sister Machine Gun / Brother Bomb / click to DL - 1994 this exemplifies the hip-hop style seen in Industrial,  these guys were released on Chicago’s Wax Trax records.
7. Sister Machine Gun / Addiction (Sasha Rips the System) / click to DL - a great song about drug use I think this is a remix by Sasha from KMFDM.
8. KMFDM / A Drug Against War / click to DL - 1993 this was a big hit on MTV which then in my eyes was viewed as negative - selling out.  KMFDM came from Germany my favorite album is 1986’s What Do You Know, Deutschland?.
9. KMFDM / Lust / click to DL - Off the same album this song is a bit more electro.
10. Nine Inch Nails / The Only Time / click to DL - 1989 Another song that sums up my High School life from one of the best albums ever Pretty Hate Machine.
11. Nine Inch Nails / Suck / click to DL - 1992 this also has a version by Pigface that is equally as good if not better.  Years ago when tripping on mushrooms I listened to this song (the pigface version) on repeat so I know all the words.  This was a hidden track 99 on the Broken album.
12. Spahn Ranch / Breath and Taxes (Deductible mix) / click to DL - Released on one of my favorite labels Cleopatra records.  From LA.
13. Front Line Assembly / Mutate / click to DL - Canadian Industrial this was formed by a former band member of Skinny Puppy.
14. Meat Beat Manifesto / God O.D. / click to DL - Another hip-hop influenced track from the UK they were once signed to Reznor’s Nothing records label. CLICK HERE to read more on them.
15. My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult / Cuz It’s Hot / click to DL - A massive group from Chicago with many great releases. CLICK HERE to read more.

FB HEROES OF 1970’S CINEMA - ROBERT ALTMAN

The above clip is from the underrated 1974 film California Split,  starring George Segal and Elliot Gould as poker hustlers.  Robert Altman had a great run in the 1970’s starting with the smash M.A.S.H (1970) his use of audio with multiple mic’s and unobtrusive camerawork set the groundwork for this “reality” style that pervades today.

This scene is from 1973’s The Long Goodbye Altman’s deconstruction of the Film Noir hollywood crime genre.

1977’s 3 Women is one of Altman’s most bizarre movies you can buy it on dvd at the criterion collection (whom I am now back working for).

Altman’s stellar run in the 1970’s also included many other critical hits such as Nashville, (clip below) an episodic character driven piece that has influenced everything (i.e films such as Traffic & Crash). His run of success ended in 1980 with Popeye a big budget mainstream disaster.
