Soulja Boy named the most creative person in the music industry by Fast Company
I read this on Tuesday and have been thinking about this for a couple of days, when I saw another article in Atlanta’s Creative Loafing. The mainstream media sure does like to suck each-others cock’s, and they sure are afraid to speak the truth. That’s why magazine’s & newspapers are going out of business (BTW Creative Loafing was notably thinner this week from lack of advertising).
First off I am not anti-Soulja Boy, I just see him how he is, a closet homosexual who brilliantly rode a youtube wave to success and basically created the new business model for pop-hop rappers worldwide. That said he does have some catchy club tunes and I am not mad at that, but Fast Company claiming he is creative, that’s crazy.
To me creativity in music is not about making money it’s about pushing boundries and saying something that remains indelible. “Swagger” and “Swag” are lame catch phrases adopted & hyped by lamer media writer’s and further used by teenager’s ect… until everyone forgets about it two years from now. I will not be impressed until Soulja Boy actually start’s saying something that matters, or if he does a dub-step album.
What is also insane is that Fast Company list’s off Soulja Boy’s outside ventures as if they already are success’s and creative. How can you call the YUMS clothing line creative in any way? It is a knock off of BAPE style which to me was never creative or original, I always viewed NIGO as the destroyer of interesting clothing in favor of overpriced candy coated homo-thug wear. That being said Soulja Boy is a smart business man and I respect that, but he is not creative as my definition of creativity involves not pimping your self out.
I also have a problem with the mainstream media sucking GIRLTALK’s dick as of late (he was number 4 on the list). My problem is that DJ Z-Trip was doing far better mash-up’s back in 1999 and he gets less press. First of all Girltalk’s first album was better than his second one and besides that mash-up’s were hot about five years ago now they are banal. Fast Company is just buying into those Girltalk PC commercial’s and all the other hipster drones I had more respect for Fast Company before this list but after reading it one can tell they are just another failing magazine behind the times.
In the future when all the mainstream media outlets in the United States crumble & fail everyone in the world will have their own blog and speak the truth. Of course this will not happen, the truth part, as most blog’s are full of shit these days too. That’s why I started mine. Get your gun’s loaded. America is at 9.5 unemployment, so when you see Soulja Boy lamping in a Lambo does it make one happy? Motivated? Are the most creative people rich or poor? Van Gogh died broke and so will every other truly creative soul.
An asside: I jokingly assume Soulja Boy is a closet homosexual merely from the fact that he has 4 vertical lines shaved on both sides of his eyebrow’s. In the 1970’s this was a sign for homosexual’s in bathhouse’s to signal to mates that they were bottom’s and loved water sports. I have no real fact’s as to Soulja Boy’s sexual preference and who cares? Well the black community sure would as they can be extremely homophobic and it would end Soulja’s career. Look at Tyler Perry, a freaking drag queen, yet accepted and bankable as long as he remains in the closet. The undercover brother has been on the rise for years but ya’ll already know that.
Soulja Boy is young and talented maybe he will make something creative one day that will alienate his middle American audience, yet be an artistic achievement. I am not a hater, I just don’t care about Lambo’s, I care about artist’s that use their fame to actually create some change and aren’t afraid to do something different.
Note on the above picture for those like my mother who do not listen to the radio. Soulja Boy is on the right and the kid on the left I forget his name but he is retired and did his best work when he was 5 years old on Arsenio. Why they are posing with their dicks hanging out as if they are about to bump & grind I do not know.
